Four basic firearm safety rules
Number 1
Always and forever handle a firearm as if it were loaded and ready to shoot. Don’t figure a firearm is unloaded unless you can see with your own eyes that there’s no live round (bullet) in the chamber. Don’t take someone else’s word for it or count on your memory, you look or make them look.
Number 2
Never, ever, point a firearm at anything that you do not intend to shoot, maim, wound or destroy. Don’t point that thing at me, I may react unexpectedly, as far as I’m concerned..it is loaded!
Number 3
Keep your cotton-pickin’ finger off the trigger until you’re ready to discharge the firearm.
Number 4
Know what you’re shooting at and be aware of what is beyond the target and in the target area. Bullets don’t always stop where you would like them to. Most times you don’t want to kill two birds with one stone.
